Rolling Meadows

Rolling Meadows is a city in Cook County Illinois that is located about 24 miles northwest of the Chicago Loop.  According to the 2000 census almost 25,000 people reside in the city.  The original residents of Rolling Meadows were Germans who immigrated to the area, like they did in Schaumburg.  The town was incorporated into a city in 1855 and soon thereafter began annexing land for development.  During the 1950’s and 1960’s businesses started moving into the city which led to a boom.  The largest department store in the area, Crawford’s, opened up in 1957.  It closed in 1994.  In the 1950’s Kimball Hill purchased a large patch of land in Rolling Meadows which led to the building of basic single family homes.  Kimball Hill started building small affordable ranch homes in 1953 and named the development Rolling Meadows. Today, the original Kimball Hill area makes up most of Rolling Meadows. The Rolling Meadows Historical Museum contains a replica of an original 1950s Kimball Hill home with authentic furnishings, appliances and accessories. The home is designed to depict life in the 50’s.  Blue-collar families started moving into the homes. Each family donated $200 into a fund to build a school system in Rolling Meadows. The family homes that were built, along with the expanding building base, led Rolling Meadows into becoming a major community in the area.  Rolling Meadows is part of the “Golden Corridor” which describes the communities along the I-90 corridor which is known is a gold mine of economic activity and revenue for the state.

Rolling Meadows Law Enforcement

The Rolling Meadows Police Department provides law enforcement services for the entire city. As of 2014, the Police Department consisted of 31 Patrol Officers, 6 Sergeants and 2 Commanders. The Police Chief and Deputy Police Chief of Rolling Meadows retired earlier this year. A new Police Chief has been named and appointed. The old Police Chief of Rolling Meadows was known for implementing a “Second Chance” program for residents of the city who were addicted to heroin. If you were addicted to heroin, you could walk into the Rolling Meadows Police Station and instead of being arrested you would be provided drug treatment services. The Rolling Meadows Police Department is located at 3600 Kirchoff Road, 2nd Floor, Rolling Meadows, Illinois 60007.
